Dan Nicholas Park offers a 10-acre lake for paddle boating and fishing, tennis courts, playground, volleyball, horseshoes, ball fields, miniature golf, carousel, gem mining, nature center, fresh water aquarium and miniature train ride for children. Other features include the Rowan Wildlife Adventures where you can learn about the diverse wildlife in NC, the Hurley Water Plaza where you can cool off when it gets hot out and the Stanback Barnyard that is filled with farm animals and old farming equipment.
Dan Nicholas Park is not just filled with activities for kids; it also has 17 covered shelters available for rent. Eleven shelters will accommodate 150 people and six will accommodate 30 people. They are equipped with picnic tables and grills. There is a charge for shelter and picnic tables on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.
Dan Nicholas Park features a 70-site family campground that is open all year round. 12 sites are located on the fishing lake and 67 sites have power and water. The Park also features 6 cabins located between 2 bathhouses. They are equipped with heat, air, bed, small microwave and refrigerator. Both the campground and cabins are available year round for a minimal charge.
