Depot exteriorWith a grand opening only 4 short years ago, The Depot at Gibson Mill has quickly become the largest and most popular antique mall in the Southeastern United States. The Depot is a tourist destination for “Pickers” of antique furniture, household items and mementos from the past. People drive in from across the region, and from as far away as New York and Florida, to explore the Depot’s huge 88,000 square feet sales floor. With more than 600 individual dealers stocking their booths with one-of-a-kind items, there is never a shortage of items to choose from.
The building itself could not be a more perfect setting for an antique mall. Gibson Mill had buzzed with activity for decades, becoming a place of employment for generations of proud families in the Cabarrus County area. For 100 years, the historic plant produced fine American-made bedding until manufacturing was shifted overseas. When the new owners renovated the structure, they took special care to maintain the original brick walls and old wood plank flooring. They call it ‘A step in the future, a Foot in the Past’.
The Depot is open 7 days a week and has a restaurant on site, so you can spend all day shopping to your heart’s desire. They even have a room called ‘The Man Cave’ where you can sit and watch sporting events on a big screen television while your other half shops away. Depot interiorEven better, they also have a very friendly staff that will help you load all of your treasures into your car. The Depot at Gibson Mill is located at 325 McGill Avenue NW, close to the Charlotte Motor Speedway, and I-85. They are open Mon-Sat 10am to 7pm, and Sundays from 1pm to 6pm.
Beginning in April, the Antiques in the Yard Sale will take place the second Saturday of each month until the winter months. It is hosted by Depot vendors and takes place in the parking lot starting at 8am, ending at noon. The Depot also opens at 9 am on the sale day. This is sure to not be just an average yard sale! Go check it out!
