The Harrisburg July 4th Celebration will be in its 17th year in 2014. This community event hosted by the Town of Harrisburg and organized by the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department, is a family friendly event held annually during the July 4th weekend at Harrisburg Park in Harrisburg, NC.
During this 2 ½ day event patrons can participate in the Miss July 4th Pageant, July 4th Parade or attend festivities at Harrisburg Park to include enjoying the amusements, an array of bands, food, commercial and non-profit vendors, the Battle of the Bands Competition, games, and two nights of spectacular fireworks.
The Harrisburg July 4th Celebration is the largest special event that the Town of Harrisburg Parks and Recreation Department puts on every year. It is also one of the largest July 4th Celebrations in Cabarrus County and surrounding counties. Benita Conrad started this event 16 years ago. Her goal was to organize and host an event for the Town to celebrate the military, their families and our independence.
The Harrisburg July 4th Celebration continues to grow and increase in attendance every year. The event starts with a Miss Harrisburg July 4th Pageant on Wednesday evening and is followed by two days full of fun at Harrisburg Park. This includes amusements, entertainment with such bands as “The Gal Friday Band‟ and the “Ken Knox & Company‟. Vendors from commercial businesses, non-profit organizations, craft vendors and an array of food vendors are in attendance. The Mayor’s Invitational Cornhole Tournament and more are part of each year’s festivities. There is also a Battle of the Bands Competition where local bands can compete for cash prizes. On Friday July 4th, a parade with over 100 entries will travel down Highway 49 through Harrisburg. Businesses, individuals, church groups and others participate to make this parade a well-attended one. Both nights end with a spectacular fireworks display for all to enjoy.
