For a city as old as Charlotte, it actually took it a long time before it could boast that it has its own brewery. It took until 2009. In the spring of that year, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery opened its doors and the owner, John Marrino, has not looked back since.
When John opened “OMB” he wanted to bring to the Queen City his love of German beers that would be poured fresh from the Lager tanks. OMB’s philosophy is the same as the German philosophy of “Reinheitsgebot – that beer should be pure and contain no more than four ingredients: barley or wheat malt, hops, yeast and water. Taking that pure recipe and combining it with the process of cold-conditioning the beer, takes a lot of time, effort and money, but the end result is a superior product that will make your taste buds dance!
OMB’s years since its 2009 opening have been very successful. They are currently preparing to open their new 25,000 square foot facility just 1/10 of a mile from their current location. This new facility boasts an even larger Brauhaus taproom, event space (Festhalle) that will accommodate up to 500 people, acreage outside for a large Biergarten, and new brewing equipment that will increase production 10 fold*.
OMB’s new location will be at 410 Yancey Road in Charlotte and the grand re-opening celebration is scheduled for Friday, August 15.
