In April of this year, after 44 years of existence, the NC Dance Theatre changed its name as part of its rebranding strategy. The newly named “Charlotte Ballet” was formed many moons ago (in 1970) by Robert Lindgren, the Dean of Dance at Winston Salem’s NC School of the Arts. Through the years, the company has enjoyed accolades and recognition from audiences across the country. The recent efforts of Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, President and Art Director, to rebrand the Dance Theatre were done to establish the organization as a Charlotte-based company with its roots firmly planted in the art of ballet.
The Charlotte Ballet offers much more to the community than one might assume. It offers school year programs with classes for the beginner ballerina om up to those who are wish to become professional ballerinas. Additionally, the Charlotte Ballet offers a national audition tour, summer programs, adult programs, plus educational programs and performances.
This month the Ballet is especially excited because their very own Associate Artistic Director, Patricia McBride, was honored at the 2014 Kennedy Center Honors on December 7. (It will be televised on December 30 at 9:00pm EST.) The Charlotte Ballet is expressing their pride on social media via #PattiPride. All of Charlotte should join in the excitement as this honor is one that celebrates a lifetime of achievement. We are thrilled that Ms. McBride is part of our local community!
The Ballet’s 2014/2015 season is currently underway with the Nutcracker being a holiday tradition. It can be seen through December 23. After the New Year, the company will perform:
Innovative Works, January 30 – February 21
Dancing with the Stars of Charlotte, March 7
Peter Pan, March 12-22
Contemporary Fusion, April 23-25
Step Up, TBD 2015
