The name says it all! The Gem Theatre in Kannapolis is well… a GEM! Walking up to the ticket booth, you can already feel the nostalgia. This historic theatre is certainly not a multiplex, but that is OK! The single screen, reasonable ticket prices, affordable concessions, balcony seating and restroom suite make movie viewing a pleasure! The Gem tends to focus on family-friendly showings too, which just adds to its appeal.
This Kannapolis icon opened for business on December 31, 1936 only to be devastated by a fire just 6 years later. After sustaining over $150,000 in damage, the Gem reopened in 1948 and has remained open ever since. It seats 916 people and was often used for variety shows as well as movie showings.
This is definitely a theatre your children and grandchildren should see.
