You walk into a room, flip on a switch – and Voila!, electricity! We use it all day, but most of us have no idea how it actually works. Located in Huntersville, on the gorgeous waterfront of Lake Norman, you’ll find Duke Energy’s “Energy Explorium” (insert big booming radio voice here). Sounds fun, right?! It is! Here they have created a fun and educational environment to help us to understand what it is that they do and how it works.

Start out by taking a virtual tour of McGuire Nuclear Station to see what goes on inside, that’s right – you’re an insider now! Then try you had at the “Energy Master Challenge” and many other interactive games that will teach you about energy and electricity. In addition to games, they have an array of creative exhibits to help you explore topics such as weather, nuclear energy, electricity, and the environment. You can conclude your learning with a short film, “The Great Inland Sea”, a movie about how and why Lake Norman was built.

Once you’ve learned all about how energy and electricity work, you can hit the trails outback for some outdoor exploration. Finish up your visit, by unwinding outside in their picnic area that overlooks the lake, with a nice picnic lunch near the butterfly garden.
