Gone are the days of ecru and eggshell. Whether you’re buying or selling a home, incorporating color is the best way to stand out. From staging a space to planting fresh flowers, there are countless ways to incorporate colors that make you happy and keep your home on trend.
Every year the Pantone Color Institute, the world’s leader in color, studies today’s trends and determines the trend of tomorrow. With social media, fashion, marketing, and culture in mind, Pantone chose Peach Fuzz as the color of 2024. This, along with complementary shades from across the rainbow, is already dominating the real estate market.
Peach Fuzz
We’ll start with the most talked-about color: Pantone 13-1023, better known as Peach Fuzz. A soft pinkish-orange, Peach Fuzz evokes warm feelings and energetic vibes. This pastel orange is perfect for dining room walls, bedding in a guest room, or cushions on a porch.
Remember, first impressions are everything—especially when prospective buyers are viewing your home. Make a warm and last impression by painting your front door Peach Fuzz. It’s an easy and inexpensive way to amp up your curb appeal and stand out.
Ultimate Gray
Shades of gray have been popular for years, and they don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Formally known as Pantone 17-5104, this deep gray brings warmth and coziness to any space. Grays can be great for walls and furnishings, but especially for places where you’re looking to establish calm. If you’re drawn to grays but are looking for something a bit more subtle, consider Cool Gray 2 C.
Illuminating
Yellow isn’t always a go-to color, but it is having a moment. Bright, warm, and cheerful, yellows are akin to golds, and who doesn’t love gold’s luxury? Pantone 13-0647 is a little deeper than you might imagine. You can fill a space with energy and light by opting for this shade. The best part of working with yellow (as well as greens and reds) is that you don’t have to make any sort of commitment. Try it by adding fresh flowers, either to a vase in the kitchen or a flower bed in your yard.
Cool Blue
2020’s color of the year, Pantone 19-4052 is still enjoying a strong presence throughout real estate and beyond. A deep, rich color, Cool Blue evokes the wonder of the sky at dusk. Blue sits opposite orange on the color wheel and makes a great complement to this year’s Peach Fuzz. A bit moody, Cool Blue makes for stunning cabinetry if you’re looking to make a statement. For something more subtle but still eye-catching, consider deep blue patio cushions and pillows for a striking contrast against your healthy, green lawn.
Dark Green
According to Architectural Digest, shades of green are popping up throughout homes. Deep and rich, Pantone 19-5513 is a statement color. If you want to experiment with a smaller commitment, consider painting a bathroom so you can try it out. If paint still feels like too much, consider throw pillows or a rug. You can also opt for lighter shades, such as Light Grass Green (15-6322) if you enjoy the earthiness of green but want to keep it light.
Sometimes color can feel intimidating —especially if you’ve moved into a builder-grade gray home or grew up in a taupe neighborhood. Start small by incorporating placemats, throw pillows, artwork, or decorative pieces in your chosen color. Rugs are a great way to try out a large amount of color without the commitment.
There’s also something cool and special about a uniquely designed bathroom or laundry room. If you’re looking to sell, focus on neutral paint colors and eye-catching details. But on the other hand, if you are going to stay in your space for a while, go wild and do whatever makes you feel happy.
