Next up on our Best of Charlotte list is the Lollipops Family Concerts. Presented by the Charlotte Symphony, Lollipops is a series of fun and engaging family concerts that introduce children to classical music and the live orchestra experience through imaginative storytelling and inspiring interpretations of classical repertoire.
Lollipops is a series of 3 one-hour concerts from November through April that introduce your child to the joy of live symphonic music while engaging all their senses.
This year’s concerts are:
Adventures in Outer Space – November 16
To infinity and beyond! Take off for galaxies far far away with Roquefort the mouse on a cosmic journey fueled by music from Star Wars, E.T., Superman, and “Planets” pit-stops. Suit-up for the adventure in your intergalactic-inspired costumes, and prepare to navigate an asteroid field.
Tubby the Tuba – February 1
Whistle with the woodwinds, sing with the strings, and help Tubby the Tuba find his melody. One by one you will discover the sights and sounds of the instrument families until you meet the whole orchestra at the “Great Gate of Kiev” for the grand finale!
Little Red Riding Hood – April 5
Grandmother, what big teeth you have! The Charlotte Symphony and theatre students from Northwest School of the Arts will have you skipping into the woods with Little Red Riding Hood, laughing at a scherzo from A Midsummer Night’s Dream and jumping into the stories of “Fairies and Giants” and “In the Hall of the Mountain King.”
All concerts are held at the Knight Theatre and begin at 11 am. Ticket prices range from $15.50 – $24.50. Come early to enjoy the pre-concert Lollipop festival featuring a lively drum circle, music related crafts, and The Symphony Guild of Charlotte’s “Musical Petting Zoo” beginning at 10 am.
And if your plans allow, plan to stay after for the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art’s Family Days for an afternoon of art activities. Adults are $4 and children are free.
