Featuring Scandinavian modern style furniture and accessories, IKEA opened its doors in University City in 2009. It is the 1st and only IKEA in the Carolinas.
Ingvar Kamprad founded IKEA in 1943 as a mostly mail-order sales business in Sweden. It began to sell furniture five years later. Over the years, its popularity has grown worldwide and to date there are 349 stores in 43 countries. Ikea is a store known for its wide selection of relatively inexpensive, yet stylish and modern furniture. It was also one of the first businesses to introduce the concept of ‘ready to assemble’ furniture and appliances.
Shopping in an IKEA is often an adventure in itself because of the size of the store and large amounts of stock in the store. A single shopping trip can often take all day. 
Don’t worry about getting hungry though – there’s a restaurant onsite featuring Swedish style dishes and local specials. And what if the kids start getting fussy? There’s no worry there either as there is a supervised playroom for children while you stop. Finally, to prove that they’ve thought of everything, IKEA provides you with tape measures, pencils and notepads for you to write down details of items you find while you shop.
If you’d not taken the trip out to IKEA yet, why not? Even if you manage to somehow not buy anything, you’ll have a day you aren’t soon to forget. IKEA is located at 8300 IKEA Blvd and store hours are Monday – Saturday from 10 am to 9 pm and Sunday 11 am to 8 pm.
