Located within the Charlotte Motor Speedway complex, is the state-of-the-art quarter mile drag racing strip known as the zMAX Dragway. It is the only all-concrete, four-lane drag strip in the United States and hosts NHRA events.
The zMAX Dragway was built in 2008 and involved 1,876 workers working a combined 636,000 man hours. With 300 workers on the site daily working an average 11-hour shift, the 13-month construction project was completed in just 6-months.
The zMAX Dragway starting line tower is 34,000 square feet and includes 11 luxury suites, race control acres, and a press box. Two grandstands, one on either side of the strip, can hold 30,000 spectators all together. 17 luxury suites with hospitality accommodations are located about the main grandstand. And two tunnels run underneath the strip for fans to move back and forth between the 2 grandstands.
If you’ve not yet experienced the zMAX Dragway, make plans now to attend the NHRA Carolina Nationals September 12-14, 2014. At this 7th annual event, the best drag racers in the world will compete head-to-head in the first event of the series’ Countdown to the Championship. This 3-day event will feature the fastest accelerating machine on the planet in old school, side-by-side drag racing. For more information, click here.
