Know to many as one of the best burger joints in Charlotte is “The Diamond”. Currently owned by three friends, this local restaurant has a special history dating back to 1945 when The Diamond was owned and operated by the James family. Even then, folks came from far and wide to experience home cooking and family traditions. And today, the tradition continues… whether it is the exterior facade, the interior decor, or the friendly, family-style atmosphere, The Diamond is a Queen City must-eat.
Burgers are just one of the daily specialities folks flock here to try. Their hand formed patties (if you can call them that, they are more like a ball of meat) are definitely huge and definitely not perfect. Just the way the cooks like it. The Diamond is also known for its Red Velvet waffle, shrimp and grits, catfish, fried okra, fried pickles and mac and cheese.
This local gem was featured on the Travel Channel’s hit show: “Burgerland”. Guess that means you are pretty good if you are showing up on TV? See the Travel Channel segment here.
The Diamond is a very popular place, so there tends to be a crowd at all times, but do not let that deter you. No matter how long you have to wait, the time goes by quickly and you will soon find out, it was well worth the wait!
The Diamond is located at 1901 Commonwealth Avenue.
