“They have THE BEST chocolate, even better than Godiva… seriously! You’ll never taste anything so delicious! And their French Cream Horns are to die for!”

That’s what Wanda, Real Estate Broker with the Leigh Brown & Associates team, thinks about Chocolatier Barrucand in Concord. Originally from Virginia, Wanda moved to the Charlotte area in 1994 with her husband Bill and (now college-aged) son, Noah. She loves to help show her clients what Charlotte has to offer and always recommends a stop in Concord for a tasty treat at Chocolatier Barrucand.

Chocolatier Barrucand (pronounced bear-roo-kahn) has one of those classic, film-worthy stories of origin that you love to hear. Originally from France, co-owner Jean Luc knew exactly what he wanted to do when he grew up. At the young age of 14, Jean Luc became trained in Pastry, Chocolate, and Sugar specialities. In 1985 he moved to the states to continue his quest for bakery greatness, and found himself drawn to the Southeast – living and working as a chef at various Country Clubs in Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

The other half to this decadent duo, Ann Marie, began her career in 1976. She worked in a multitude of hotels and restaurants in Owego, New York where she grew up. Upon moving to Charlotte in 1980, she worked under some of the most notable chefs in the area, continuing to build and grow her culinary portfolio. Jean Luc & Ann Marie, with a little bakery magic, met in 1992 at Myers Park Country Club where they were both working at the time. They married in 1994 and the rest is pure pastry history.

In 2007 the couple opened up Chocolatier Barrucand, which offers patrons elegant chocolates,  desserts, pastries, and cakes. Their unique creations bring delicious ingredients, creative design, and one-of-a-kind presentation together for an experience like no other. With things like Chocolate-filled Almond Cake with French Butter Cream in the case, how can you go wrong?? They’ve got something for every palate, and everything can be purchased by the piece, or by the box (ya know, since one piece is NEVER enough)! Next time you’re in Concord, be sure to stop in and say, “Hi!” Your sweet tooth will be glad you did!
